Mourning Reverend Dr. Calvin Butts III

It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Reverend Dr. Calvin Butts III. Reverend Butts was an inspiring preacher, scholar, and tireless advocate who is most well-known as the pastor of the Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem.

To us, however, he was Calvin V and Reed’s grandfather, Calvin IV’s father, and Tiffany’s father-in-law. Reverend Butts has supported the league since its inception, often attending games, helping to recruit coaches, and participating in our Opening Day ceremony whenever asked. His loss is felt deeply within our community. We will miss seeing him at games where he quietly rooted for every player.

To Calvin IV, Tiffany, Calvin V, and Reed: Our hearts and prayers are with you, your family and the numerous lives Reverend Butts touched. We offer you our support now and as we continue to grow Harlem Little together.
